If you read our travelling unprepared post you understand why I jumped at the chance to use my brothers return to London train ticket. A mere 2 hour journey (not including the 1 hour bus when we get to London) and being a train it means Pops can actually walk about too, not to mention it’s paid from our station so I don’t even need to pay to get into cardiff. Win win win.
One phone, one Ipad (apps downloaded) and a bag full of snacks (and clothes etc) we head off. (The pram a bit like Buckaroo)
I decided to leave when MM leaves for work so I could have that little extra help getting into cardiff. We got into cardiff and decided to go get some lunch for the train.
An hour or so later, the wrong platform and a lot of walking round were on the train.
We get on to find only one table which had someone on, I put our stuff down and sat pops at the table and sat on the set of chairs next to her. ( I don’t usually expect people to move and allow us to sit together but this guy went ONE stop, why he didn’t let me sit next to her I don’t know)
A few stops in I had noticed pops had a full nappy so I thought as I had to change her I would try her on the My Carry Potty… A few up and downs and she did it. WOOHOO! I was so happy. First potty wee outside the house and I wasn’t sure she would as the train was moving but she didn’t seem to mind.
Not long after that she started pointing to her pram and saying nanight so I layer her in with a blanket and twinkle twinkle little star playing on the Kidloland app on the ipad. (That’s where she is now…asleep!)
Apart from just finding the car keys in the pram (that MM needs to use to drive down to London on Friday) things are going quiet well. (Famous last words? Well see when we get to London 🙈)
We arrived and pops woke up. The hour long bus journey wasn’t too bad as I had Pokémon GO to distract me and pops was enjoying looking out of the windows. There was so much traffic which meant we were driving slow so I managed to hatch some (waste) eggs.
I really do prefer coming to London by train, I just wish it wasn’t 6x the price 😥

Ooh sounds like fun! I haven’t taken Jack on the train by myself yet and we live just outside London – we’ve been in a big group but I don’t know if I trust myself lol

Lots of snacks and distractions are a must! It really is a fun experience, make games of what you can see out of the windows too 🙂

Its always handy to keep th children occupied on long journeys, my daughter is 19 now and didnt have all the gadgets we have now, I think I just kept her busy with looking out the window and little games like i spy 🙂 Hope you enjoyed your trip:)

It really is crazy to think about us managing to make journeys without needing tech, I think it’s a case of not knowing what we were missing? Lol . Pops loves looking out of the windows so we defo got a nice balance 🙂

Sounds like the journey was not tok bad. Sometimes its easier to drive but I do like train journeys as you can travel stress free without worrying about the traffic.

My lad is seven and just loves a train trip too, he gets so excited.

I prefer going with the car instead of the train as it can get so busy. On my own it’s ok with the train, but if I’m with my husband I prefer the car as we can chat.

I love train travel and I can imagine it being so much fun as a family – especially if you play games or all watch something together!

I just realised you live in Wales – so do I! I find booking tickets as far in advance as possible is the best way to get cheaper tickets to London, also investing in a family rail card saves you 33% on adult tickets and 60% on kids tickets and sometimes the total is cheaper than just an adults ticket!

I’ve looked in advance and it never seems cheaper, pops doesn’t have to any yet so not sure a family card would be worth it. Well defo be getting one when she’s older. I miss my young persons rail card haha

Lol we load up our buggy like that. Sometimes we forget it’s back heavy and take little man out and it goes flying backwards. I hate traveling by public transport with kids. You did well there x
